Review by Anne G.
Shortly before Memorial Day, I agreed to join a couple friends in a 100-mile summer running challenge. The goal is to run 100 miles during the 100 days from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Some runners just do one mile each day. I chose to run less frequently and do longer 3-6 mile runs. About 25 miles into the challenge, I was desperate for a new pair of running shoes. The ones I purchased out of habit just didn’t give me much room for foot swelling due to hot-weather running or the added comfort I wanted for longer runs. That’s when the Nike Air Zoom Winflo 6 entered my life.
I have been running for over thirty years, and I have never chosen Nike brand in a running shoe before. But I was so pleased with how great my 55+ year old feet felt on the very first run, with no sore spots as is typically the case for me with new running shoes. I did choose a half-size up over my typical shoe size, and that allowed for plenty of room in the toe box. I wear custom orthotics, and they fit snugly in the shoes without causing my heels to ride too high, a common problem I have experienced with other running shoes. I love that the Winflo 6’s are lightweight but offer plenty of cushion and support. They are so comfortable that I have worn them for errands even after a long run. And given that I find many styles of running shoes to be either too boring or way over the top, the Winflo 6’s are as cute on my feet as they are comfortable. They are actually the first running shoes I have received compliments on when I wear them.
So with over 25 days to go, I am only three miles away from my goal of completing 100 miles. My Nike Winflo 6’s are still going strong, and I am so happy with them that I am planning on picking up a second pair for when these wear out!
Editor note from Kirsten: I personally prefer the Nike Winflo 4 and 5 for the wider toe box. The Winflo 6 feels narrower to me. Keep this in mind if you have a wider forefoot (you might want to order the wide width). You can find the Nike Winflo 5 at Amazon still.
